Welcome, humans.

Disney just demoed a new life-like robot that can imitate human facial features. If you get scared easily, maybe avoid watching this video for now.

They, uh, forgot to put skin on it…

It kinda reminds us of the villain that fights Wolverine in X-Men: Origins. You know, the 2009 Deadpool that was far more mangled, evil, and (way) less funny than the Deadpool we know and love today…

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • The new AI coding assistant Cursor is having a viral moment.
  • China's World Robot Conference showcased cheap humanoid robots.
  • Inflection will provide portable chat history as part of its Pi chatbot.
  • OpenAI took a surprising stance on AI legislation in California.

10 Mind-Blowing Things You Can Do with Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Cursor

There's a new tool called Cursor that all of our smart software engineer friends are using with Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and the results are trending on X, like, every day.

The company also just raised $60M, so they’re having a moment.

Similar to Github Copilot, Cursor helps developers integrate AI into their workflows. It supports the latest AI models (like Claude 3.5 Sonnet) and VS Code plugins, and enables next action prediction, natural language edits, and chatting w/ your codebase.

Andrej Karpathy, former Director of AI at Tesla, called the combo a “net win.” He described his recent “programming” w/ Cursor as writing English prompts, reviewing and editing generated code, and “half-coding” (and says he can't imagine going back to “unassisted” coding).

Here are 10 mind-blowing examples of what you can do w/ Cursor:

  1. Craft a production-grade Stripe feature.
  2. Design beautiful user interfaces.
  3. Make feature changes with voice commands.
  4. Develop a web-based video editor (in only 3 weeks).
  5. Build a chrome extension (in 8-10 hours).
  6. Develop a code-explainer tool (in ~1 hour)
  7. Build a chatbot (as an 8-year-old) in 45 minutes.
  8. Create a simple image editor (in a half hour—try the demo here).
  9. Create Figma plugins (in minutes).
  10. Generate a loading state (a placeholder visual for when content loads) in only 5 seconds (The prompt? “Create a loading state based on this page”).

Shout out to Min Choi for the epic round-up!

Ever had a website / app idea you wanted to test out?

It’s not like Cursor will make you a developer overnight, so we recommend doing something easier first—use Claude to trial what it’s like to code with natural language, and build a test version of that app you’ve always wanted to create via Artifacts

An example we made in ~2 mins (and the filters work!)

Here’s how:

  1. Go to Claude + start a new project (w/ a 200K context window).
  2. Provide a high-level overview of the app + sketches of your UI (5 max).
  3. Ask Claude to code an “MVP version” of the project in the chat.
  4. Test it, give Claude feedback, and have it iterate on the code.
  5. Once you like what you built, publish your creation w/ this tutorial.

Would you use AI to code? If so, for what?

A personal website to showcase hobbies.

A tool to improve productivity / automate a daily task.

A simple mobile app for a specific goal.

An online store for a main / side business.

A custom browser extension.

A script to automate repetitive tasks.

FROM OUR PARTNERS

Build your next big AI product idea.

At AE Studio, they’ve done some crazy things. One time, they taught AI to brew beer, and then market it — it sold out.

They want to help you build crazy things, too. But first, you need a crazy idea. Their AI Ideas Generator takes your business problem and gives you a report of AI-powered solutions that can help you address it.

Around the Horn.

  • At China's World Robot Conference, companies showcased innovations ranging from winking humanoids to flexible robotic arms, with some new designs costing as little as 1/10th  traditional prices.
  • Inflection AI (creator of Pi chatbot with ~1M+ daily active users), is pioneering a way for users to easily save and move their AI chat history, potentially setting a trend for other AI companies.
  • OpenAI announced its support for a California bill (AB 3211) requiring AI content labeling, but opposed another (SB 1047) that would mandate safety testing on AI models.

Tuesday Ticker

Here are the results from last week’s poll:

  • E.E. chose Read: “If you only listen you remember less.”
  • S.G. chose Listen: “I can listen to audio for hours - but can't read text for hours...”
  • M.A. chose Mix of both: “It depends on what my day looks like - sometimes I have time to listen while commuting, other times reading is more convenient. I'd like the same news topics covered in both mediums vs. needing to both listen and read to get the top stories for the day. That said, it would make sense that they might be covered in different ways, depending on the medium.”
