Welcome, humans.

Today in “wait, is this Black Mirror IRL?” news: someone made a “private” social network (think Twitter clone) that’s made entirely of bots. No humans allowed—except you, of course. Why? According to the creator, so you can feel heard.

The creator’s launch post on the SideProject subreddit received a wide spectrum of reactions from real* humans. To our genuine surprise, people are actually using it and sharing their experiences, and it seems pretty wild:

Kinda takes “social media = echo chamber” to a whole new level…

The experiment has really caused some people to question the value of social media. Others? “Wait, so I post a comment and I get millions of replies by bots? Nice!” Anyway, here’s the app if you wanna try it!

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • We break down the sad state of AI data privacy in the U.S.
  • Google announced plans to flag AI-generated images in Search.
  • Mistral unveiled an improved small model and free API tier.
  • Bill Gates, Blackrock, and MGX plan to raise $30B+ for AI infrastructure.

Oracle pitched a vision of an AI surveillance Utopia… turns out, we’re already living in it.

Our goal here at The Neuron is to share the most actionable, useful information about AI with our readers. Today, we’re going to shed a little light on the potentially darker side of AI.

We may be living with much more AI surveillance than we think.

You might have seen Oracle CEO Larry Ellison’s recent sales pitch for “omnipresent AI cameras.” The TL;DR is that Oracle’s AI will unleash a Utopia where no one does anything wrong… because we’re being watched all the time.

Whether that vision sounds dreamy or dystopian to you, as it turns out, Larry’s vision of the future is actually happening today. Like right now.

404 Media did a deep dive on every piece of tech Ellison pitched, and they’re all in use today:

  1. AI school surveillance: AI-powered weapon detectors are used in schools, and many schools now use security cameras with facial recognition.
  2. AI-monitored video feeds: Over 75 countries now use AI-powered surveillance cameras around the world, like one system used by 100+ government orgs in the U.S. that connects ~200K private security cameras.
  3. First responder drones: Companies like Skydio are used for rapid response to crime scenes, high-res imagery, and detailed 3D models for investigations.

P.S: Not saying this tech is good or bad, just saying it’s here, and you should be aware.

If this bothers you (and you live in the U.S.), there’s some ideas on how to regulate it. Most of them are “non-binding” though… a.k.a, more like guidelines than actual rules.” Then there’s always the EU’s way
